    The asterisk, explained

    Casually
    world-class.*

Anyone can call themselves world-class. So here is exactly what we mean.

Seth Godin argues in Linchpin that world-class means being the best in the world at one specific thing for the specific people who need it. That is the sense we use and it is a standard we work towards on every matter.

    What it is about

    1. 01

      Regulated industries

Entering and scaling in heavily regulated industries, where most of the risk sits before the first regulator contact.

    2. 02

      Strategy before the first letter

The other side's likely moves are worked out before anything is sent.

    3. 03

      Advice that is always explained

Every recommendation comes with the reasoning behind it, so a client can see the position for themselves and decide.

    2027

    Moonshots.

What we are going to try this year. Some will land and some will not. Either way, the result is reported here.

    01Planned

    Open problem night

Business owners bring one real commercial problem in general terms with names left out. We think it through live on a whiteboard as an exercise in how to think, not advice on anyone's own facts.

    02Planned

    Change one rule

Pick one Queensland or federal rule that quietly costs small businesses money, make the case for changing it to the people who can and report what happens.

    03Planned

    The Negotiation Table

One evening. Business owners and former regulators or in-house counsel on opposite sides of a live scenario, under Chatham House rules.

    04Under way

A knowledge base built for AI

Why write a book when the reader may be an AI assistant? A structured plain-English body of Queensland and Australian business law guidance that people and AI tools can read, each point linked to the legislation and cases. It explains the terrain and stops short of advice on anyone's facts.

    05Under way

    Two doors into the competition

Legal roles are open to lawyers who hold or will hold an Australian practising certificate. Non-legal roles in technology, AI, design and operations are open to talent anywhere in the world. Every entry is judged on the work without names.

    06Planned

    Phronesis in a live dispute

Take Phronesis Litigation from "register your interest" to working on real litigation matters in 2027.

Progress against each moonshot is reported on this page at the end of 2027.

    Casually world-class.*
