Astris Law is a small legal practice that takes a generalist approach over the silos of a traditional firm. We don't claim to be everything to everyone; we are simply a practice who will look at a client's business as a whole.

Our culture isn't built on titles or corporate hierarchies, but around specific kinds of psychographics. We enjoy the variety of the sectors we serve and the intellectual challenge of staying across the moving bits and pieces to keep our clients ahead.

Jamie Nuich

Legal Practitioner Director

Jamie founded Astris Law to do things differently. After working in firms where directors were treated as files rather than people, she built a practice where the director is the client. Not the company. Not the board. The person making the decisions.

She works across commercial law and litigation, advising directors on everything from shareholder disputes and regulatory investigations to M&A transactions and employment matters. Her approach is direct. She learns the business first and applies the law second.

Jamie holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and a Bachelor of Business (Distinction). She is admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of Queensland and the High Court of Australia.

Notable Experience

Part of a team acting for a director in a high-profile ASIC prosecution proceeding after multi-billion dollar financial firm collapse.

Advised on the acquisition of a global gaming brand and associated terms.

Acted as part of a small litigation team in an $8 billion oil and gas dispute.

Resolved a trade mark and passing off dispute with a government body threatening significant enforcement action in a single letter of response (without the client needing to forfeit their trademark or to change anything in their business operations).

Experience acting in winding up proceedings, sequestration orders and creditor disputes.

Acted as part of a small litigation team in a $15 million dispute concerning proprietary travel software.

Advised on venture capital term sheets, equity funding rounds, sweat equity arrangements and Employee Share Scheme structuring.

Obtained an ex parte injunction in proceedings involving a director's misappropriation of business funds, with interim relief enlarged from 3 days to 6 months duration.

Conducted proprietary research on aviation safety laws and petroleum economics modelling.

Recovered $150,000 in full from a major bank on behalf of a business client whose funds were stolen in a cyber crime, resolved without court proceedings.

Established multiple wholesale Managed Investment Funds involving complex regulatory and corporate structuring.

Successfully defended Workcover with the Regulator and WHS complaints without further prosecution.

Advised cryptocurrency founders on token launch structures, exchange listings and sale terms, including AFSL licensing considerations.

Successfully defended trade mark bad faith claims between a prominent Chinese manufacturer and an Australian e-commerce brand.

Advised on small business restructuring under Part 5.3B of the Corporations Act.

Acted for a health practice on regulatory compliance including professional codes, clinical guidelines and beauty clinic regulatory requirements.

Successfully transferred Federal Court proceedings interstate on behalf of a respondent.

Dispute resolution approach drawing on over 500 mediations conducted as a nationally accredited mediator and conciliator, and former service on the Farm Business Debt Mediation Panel under the Queensland Rural and Industry Development Authority.
