# Collection Notice

This notice tells you, at or before the point we collect it, how and why Astris Law collects personal information through this website, by phone and by email. It should be read with our [Privacy Policy](/privacy), which explains our information handling practices in full.

## 2\. What we collect, and how

When you contact us through a form on this website, book a consultation, complete an online intake questionnaire, call us or email us, we collect the personal information you give us. That is usually your name, email address and phone number, and whatever you choose to tell us about your situation. Calls to our consultation line are automated and recorded.

We collect personal information directly from you wherever it is reasonable and practicable to do so. Occasionally we receive it from someone else — for example, where a referrer, colleague or family member contacts us on your behalf, or where we look up publicly available registers such as ASIC records in order to respond to your enquiry.

Our website also uses analytics and embedded services that collect technical information such as your IP address and pages viewed. Part 12 of the [Privacy Policy](/privacy) lists those services.

## 3\. Why we collect it

We collect your personal information to respond to your enquiry, assess whether we can act for you, run conflict of interest checks before accepting a matter, schedule and conduct consultations, provide legal services if you engage us and meet our professional and regulatory obligations. We do not use it for marketing without your consent, and we do not sell it.

## 4\. Collection required or authorised by law

An enquiry itself is voluntary — no law requires you to contact us. Once we consider acting for you, some collection is required or authorised by law: conflict checking under the Australian Solicitors Conduct Rules and the Legal Profession Act 2007 (Qld), and, where we provide a designated service, customer identification under the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act 2006 (Cth). We give you a separate, specific notice before we collect information for AML/CTF purposes.

## 5\. If you do not provide it

You can browse this website, and make a general enquiry, without identifying yourself where that is practicable. If you do not give us the information we ask for in a form or at intake, we may be unable to respond to your enquiry, run the checks we must run or act for you.

Google Workspace (email and documents), Smokeball (practice management), Supabase (website form submissions) and our website and communications providers, so your enquiry reaches us and is stored securely.

Counsel, experts and agents

Where you engage us and your matter reasonably requires it.

Courts, tribunals and regulators

Where required or authorised by law, or reasonably necessary for the conduct of a matter.

AUSTRAC and verification providers

Only if you become a client and we provide a designated service under the AML/CTF Act — a separate notice covers that collection.

## 7\. Overseas disclosure

We are an Australian practice and our records are held in Australia. Some of our service providers process information outside Australia: Smokeball's servers and providers operate in the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia and Japan, and Google operates data centres in a number of countries. Part 9 of the [Privacy Policy](/privacy) sets out each provider's position.

## 8\. How we record your acknowledgement

Where a form on this website asks you to confirm that you have read this notice, we keep a record of that confirmation: the statement you agreed to, the version of this notice in force and the date and time. We keep it so that we can demonstrate we notified you, and it is held with the same protections as the rest of your information.

## 9\. Access, correction and complaints

Our [Privacy Policy](/privacy) explains how you can ask for access to the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it and complain if you think we have mishandled it. If you are not satisfied with our response you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at [oaic.gov.au](https://www.oaic.gov.au).

This notice is available free of charge on our website and, on request, in another reasonable form.
