Mediation is administered through the Queensland Small Business Commissioner, which manages the process and appoints mediators. It is designed to be low cost, confidential and accessible to small business tenants who could not realistically fund full litigation. At mediation an independent mediator helps the parties try to reach their own agreement. The mediator does not impose a decision. If the parties settle, the agreement is recorded and becomes binding.
